We have seen a significant growth in the number of doctors trained in the most diverse fields of knowledge in Brazil in recent years. The same holds true to Linguistics, where various studies have addressed language in interface with other disciplines, pushing the boundaries of Linguistics itself. In fact, the Brazilian scientific community and the Brazilian funding agency CNPq have been discussing a new classification system for the fields of knowledge. Currently, Linguistics belongs to the major area “Linguistics, Letters and Arts”, but discussions have pointed to renaming it to “Languages and Arts”. This new perspective requires a move from strict linguistics, one with no interfaces and dialogues with other fields, to one which incorporates the scope and the interfaces that make up language-related, language-oriented and language-driven knowledge production. Our experience as faculty, researchers, and students at PPGEL have shown that this new name seems to be more adequate to cover our research initiatives.
